In these chapters it talked about different ways to differentiate instruction. These chapters really made me understand how crucial it is to "get to know the students". Everything we as teachers do revolves around getting to know who our students are, their interests, and how they learn. All of these factors are important for students learning ability. We all know that each student learns differently. As teachers, we must focus on knowing who our students are and how they learn. Learning is much easier when students have something to build on. Teaching students through ideas and topics that interest them will make for a better understanding. They can build on the prior knowledge and learn so much more.
"A task is challenging for a given student when it causes that student to stand on 'mental tiptoes' and reach high to complete it well." This quote from the chapters really stood out to me because it says that students must reach high for sucess. It is good for students to take on a challenging task. In most cases, they will be able to use prior knowledge and be able to challenge themselves.
I hope that in my placement this year, that I will see a lot of differentiated instruction take place.
