Ch. 12- Differentiating Process

In this chapter, it talks about teaching through differentiated process. I liked how the chapter talked about not just giving the students a good activity, but giving them a good differentiated activity. A differentiated activity is one that is varied and uses a range of modes at different paces. I liked the scenario of Mr. Jackson and his second grade class. It is important to let each student strive to their fullest potential. It is not fair to have a student who is ahead of the others to have to "wait" for everyone elso to catch up. By giving students choice, they are able to complete work in which may be challenging to their needs. In my classroom, I have a student who is very advanced for first grade. She is the smartest student in our class. She is on a second grade Read Well Unit. This is the reading curriculum that is used. The literacy coach is actually trying to get it arranged for her to go out of the classroom and to a second grade reading time. If this does not work then she will have to join a reading group below her actual level. This would not be fair for her nor would she be learning or processing new information.
Any activity should be made to make sense to each student. It should be made for each student to think at higher levels so that they are being challenged.
