Multidisciplinary integration focuses on the disciplines, and is usually the organization of standards around a theme. We're thinking the Learning Experiences from last semester.
However, the amount of integration effort varies from unit to unit.
There are several types of multidisciplinary integration.
Intradiciplinary--
- sub-disciplines are integrated (for example, algebra and geometry may be integrated, but they are both math)
- connections between ideas in the same subject
Fusion
- fuse skill and knowledge
- usually based around a character trait (peace, respect, etc)
- ex. literature across the curriculum
Service Learning
- community projects connected with disciplines
Learning Centers/Parallel Disciplines
- centers bases on one idea, but attacked from all angles
- students must make connections between the disciplines themselves
- ex. centers dealing with patterns in math, science, language arts, etc
Theme-Based Units
- may not be integrated until the final, culminating activity
